About Memphis Slim Collaboratory

Memphis Slim Collaboratory was created to artistically engage the community through resources in music, the related music industry, and other artistic endeavors. The Collaboratory aims to be a gathering place that attracts, supports, and retains all who are, or aspire to be, involved in the music industry within Memphis, as well as residents of the historic Soulsville, USA neighborhood. It is part of an overall effort underway to transform parts of Soulsville, USA into musicians’ community that will also include affordable new housing, incentives to renovate existing housing, and other resources for area musicians. The Collaboratory is the former home of Memphis music icon Memphis Slim. It’s a public/private venture involving Memphis’ Community LIFT, LeMoyne-Owen College Community Development Corporation (CDC), the University of Memphis’ Memphis Music Magnate project, and other stakeholders.
